Despite a late race flat tire that necessitated an unplanned pit stop, Denny Hamlin raced like a madman down the stretch and took the checkered flag at Monday’s Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 NASCAR race at West Virginia’s Martinsville Speedway. The race had been originally scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Monday due to torrential rains.

Hamlin’s success at the track didn’t escape unnoticed by NASCAR betting enthusiasts, and those that backed him as a +750 choice to win received a nice payday. Series points leader Jimmie Johnson was the betting favorite for the race.

Giving up the lead with ten laps remaining to head to the pit for fresh tires, Hamlin drove like a man possessed to regain the lead and take the victory. He somehow moved from 9th place to the lead in just four laps, and talked about his wild ride after the race:

“That’s hard to do. I had to bully my way through there towards the end, but everybody was just running into everyone. I flattened my tire with Matt Kenseth going down the backstretch and just somehow made it work.”

Hamlin got around seven time Martinsville winner Jeff Gordon with help from teammate Joey Logano in the shootout during the final laps and held on for the victory. Race favorite Jimmie Johnson finished 9th, which was good enough to give him the overall series points lead. Greg Biffle is second in the standings, with Matt Kenseth in third.

NASCAR will head to Phoenix, Arizona for the Subway Fresh Fit 600 a week from Saturday before moving on to Texas for a race April 18th. They’ll then head to the superspeedway at Talladega, Alabama for the second restrictor plate race of the season on April 25th.

Newcomers at the automobile wrap company know very nicely that the least complicated method to location graphics on cars is to begin with vinyl graphics and Monster Energy Stickers. Due to the fact full wrapping requires quite a bit of technique, a huge expenditure on installation materials, and larger sheets of vinyl, beginners can do nicely by knowing how to apply these smaller units.

Graphics and Monster Energy Stickers may be smaller in dimensions, but we should in no way take too lightly their impact. Simply ask racing enthusiasts. A basic two-tone car can be made much more edgy with a few well-placed vinyl fabric stickers. If you’ve seen the film “The Fast And the Furious” or observed NASCAR-like racing occasions on television, then you get the point. There is no surface, be it a car, a street motorcycle, or a basic store window, that cannot be further jazzed up with vinyl fabric graphics.

You now know what graphics and Monster Energy Stickers can do for you. Why don’t we move forward to do-it-yourself decal installation techniques. Applying smaller sheets of vinyl for your automobile or selected surface area does not truly require knowledge of rocket science. In other words, you don’t have to go to a professional auto entire body vinyl installer to get the task done. However, it does require awareness and accuracy on your part.

Here are some ideas to make your decal application a less sweat-inducing process:

- Should you want the set up to look expert, always use your hobby knife to transfer the vinyl decal or sticker from the backing sheet for your car’s entire body; in no way use just your hands. While your fingers may be more manageable, a blade will be able to give your decal a sleeker and much more polished finish.

- Use a soap solution to spritz the body initially before you adhering the decal on. This way, you are able to just slide the decal on and then make the required position adjustments prior to you finally let it dry into location. If you just location the vinyl decal over it, chances are, you will have issues simply because vinyl fabric sticks easily.

- When you’re cutting out a decal from the backing sheet, allow for a small space around it to serve as your handle. Should you cut the decal directly at its edge, you run the risk of prematurely attaching it onto the body. If this happens, you’ll have no choice but to scrape it off and eventually ruin not just the Monster Energy Stickers, but your paint job, too.

- Wrinkles are most likely the most frequent problems of Diy vinyl stickers installations. To decrease the likelihood of wrinkles and bubbles, use a blowdryer over the Monster Energy Stickers whilst you smooth it more than. Just make certain to keep it at a great distance and expose the decal to heat only really quickly as it could melt and end up a greater eyesore.

Denny Hamlin, pegged as a future NASCAR superstar, won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The race had originally been scheduled for a day earlier but was pushed back due to rain. The win was Hamlin’s first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

After the race, an emotional Hamlin dedicated the victory to his grandmother who passed away late last week at the age of 91. His grandmother reportedly followed his career closely and watched every race:

She understands the competition of the sport and she understands how much she means to me. Like today, she’s pretty proud. We definitely had some angels with us today.”

The unique triangle configuration track at Pocono bedevils many drivers, but Hamlin has always performed well here. He swept both races here as a rookie in 2006 and after the race his boss J.D. Gibbs made note of that fact:

I told him earlier, we’re going to lobby for a few extra races at Pocono”

Hamlin moved up to fifth in the NASCAR championship points standings after the victory. Tony Stewart increased his points lead over second place Jimmie Johnson to 197 points with a top ten finish.

Clint Bowyer finished third and expressed pleasure with the solid performance in his postrace comments:

“Things haven’t been going our way all year long so it feels good to have something swing our way.

Former Indy Car driver Sam Hornish, Jr. took fourth. Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.

Points leader Stewart will have a good opportunity to increase his lead this weekend, as NASCAR heads to Watkins Glen, NY to race on the road course there. Stewart is considered not only the best road course driver among current NASCAR competitors, but arguably the best of all time.

While there are a number of challenging tracks on the NASCAR stock car racing circuit, few have earned the fearsome reputation of South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway. Known as ‘the track too tough to tame’, its shaped like an egg with a surface that shreds tires. Some of the best drivers–including NASCAR’s ‘King’ Richard Petty never mastered it. David Person, on the other hand, dominated at Darlington. He won 10 races and won 12 poles–both records that will likely never be broken. He actually made the ‘track too tough to tame’ look downright easy.

David Pearson was born three days before Christmas’34 in a tough textile town near the North Carolina/South Carolina border called Whitney. His parents both worked in the local mill and did their best to provide. David quit school after the 10th grade and also worked in the mill. He was soon drawn away by his love of fast cars. He bought his own car and began racing at short tracks in the area. He ran his first race in’52 in Woodruff, South Carolina and won his first championship at the old Greenville/Pickens Speedway in’59.

Pearson never sought out stock car racing immortality, but some of his friends had other ideas. They began raising money to buy a car to race in the NASCAR Grand National series (the forerunner to today’s Sprint Cup). With a patchwork of financial backing, David began racing a limited schedule on the Grand National circuit and was named the’60 rookie of the year. In’61, he became the first driver in history to win on 3 of the 4 superspeedways in the same season (Charlotte, Atlanta, Daytona). This attracted sponsors, and before he knew it he was a top NASCAR driver winning Grand National titles in’66,’68 and’69.

The’70s saw Pearson cut back his schedule somewhat, focusing on superspeedways. In’72, he started driving for the Wood Brothers in the #21 car that he was to make a legend. In’73, he won 11 races in’ starts”an incredible feat even by today’s standards. Through the end of the’70s, Pearson won 43 races. In addition to his mastery of Darlingon, he posted remarkable numbers all over the circuit. He is one of two men to have won more than 100 races, and his 105 is second only to The King Richard Petty’s 200 wins. Hes also second on career poles (113) to Petty. Head to head, however, he has a slight edge over NASCARs legendary King: in races where he and Petty finished 1-2, Pearson won 33 to Petty’s 30. His 11 consecutive poles at Charlotte is a feat that will likely never be matched. Another record that may never be broken is his’.29% winning percentage, as well as his record of starting from the pole in 20% of the races he ran.

In March, 2000, SC Highway 221 through Spartanburg County was renamed David Pearson Boulevard in his honor. He lives in Spartanburg to this day. Pearson still takes to the track occasionally–he and current NASCAR driver Carl Edwards were the first to race on the newly repaved Darlington Raceway last Spring. We should all hope to be able to run with a 20 something NASCAR driver when we’re in our mid 70’s. Incidentally, he got the nickname Silver Fox due to his prematurely gray hair and cunning style behind the wheel.

Ross Everett is a consulting handicapper for Oddsbay and an expert on World Cup soccer betting. He has written extensively on sports betting, drag racing, travel, and falconry. He lives in Las Vegas with four dogs and a pair of racing wombats.

In Ontario, Canada, there has been an encouraging decline of snowmobile related accidents from1997 to 2007. From 47, there has been a dramatic decline to 17 in ten years. Officials are happy to relay that probably people have gotten the message on how to safely enjoy the sport. Apparently, more sports enthusiasts are joining the bandwagon of responsible snowmobile riding. It has been noted that ninety percent of reported accidents happened off the legal trail.

Most experts will say that the most important tip a snowmobile rider could follow is to remain on established trail systems. When one is beyond the trails, he is in the mercy of multiple dangers like fences, rocks, and a number of unseen hazards. Some people will disobey rules and safety precautions irresponsibly just because they want to.

Taking a snowmobile out during off season is a very risky game. When balmy spring weather approaches, a snowmobile right could be a very bad idea. Some thrill seekers like to venture out as ice covered lakes are beginning to thaw. It wouldn’t be so bad to remember incidents of miss plunges that almost took the life of some sledders.

As a warning, in 2006, in Fort McPherson, two men tried to cross a river in one vehicle when they ran into a patch of open water. One of them was never found, and the other was pulled out and rushed to a nearby health center. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it.

Some officials have made some measures to decrease the risks of the sport. In Middletown New York, they offer Snowmobile Certification Courses for snowmobile riders. In fact, it is imperative that riders pass the course. The course teaches proper riding, safety equipment, and the rules of the trail. The students are taught by certified snowmobile instructors.

Yellowstone National Park has one of the most successful attempts in decreasing snowmobile related risks, when they required commercial guides for snowmobile riders. They reported a very noticeable decrease in snowmobile riders harassing wildlife, crossing off limits borders, incurring accidents, violating speeding and safety measures. The guides are trained by park officials.

Even snowmobile manufacturers have taken extra effort to improve the sport. At the moment there are rigs that have better machines and provide more comfort and security. The snowmobiles now provide more power for electrical accessories as well as making it cleaner & quieter. Some have communication devices that are built into helmets so riders can talk with one another without taking their concentration away from driving. The extra power even provides more juice for heating to make the riders more comfortable and capable.

There are a lot of precautions, and rules that are in place to make the sport of snowmobile adventure safe. Even the government officials and manufacturers are doing their share to make this adventure fun and sound. That’s how it should stay, safe and entertaining. If people just learn to abide by the experts tips, it is possible to make this sport almost if not 100% secure.

As the 2009 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Toyo Tires season opener at Sebring approaches, WC Vision is pleased to announce two new partnerships with Debaufre Watches, and AutoWeek.

AutoWeek has been a long-time supporter of the SPEED series, the bi-weekly publication will become the SPEED World Challenge number board sponsor for the 2009 season. What has become a staple in many SPEED World Challenge fans mailbox, AutoWeek is the place to go for the latest automotive and motor-sports news. Additionally, AutoWeek will present an award at each event, in each class, for the best pass of the race.

Who better to sponsor the Fastest Lap Of The Race Award than Debaufre Watches, a U.S.-based family owned Swiss Watch Company. Producer of quality Swiss timepieces, Debaufre (pronounced Day-boh-fray) offers high-end luxury and style at a price that’s within reach.

Debaufre has been announced as the Official Timepiece of the 2009 Speed World Challenge racing season. As sponsor of the fastest lap of the race award, Debaufre will present a beautiful Swiss watch to the GT and Touring Car race driver with the fastest lap of the race at each round. To cap off the season, Debaufre will award each 2009 Drivers’ Champion with a custom-designed Debaufre watch.

Alldaron, president of Debaufre watches, said, “We are excited to work with SPEED World Challenge Vision in 2009, and thereby unite two of the oldest collaborations in the world, the passion and precision of racing with Swiss time-keeping. The partnership is a perfect match.”

“It feels great to have this kind of support for the 2009 season,” WC Vision Co-Chair Peter Cunningham said. “Obviously Debaufre Swiss watches and AutoWeek recognize the value in SPEED World Challenge.”

“There will be plenty to race for in 2009 and I would expect several more announcements about new partnerships as our season unfolds. We thank Debaufre watches and AutoWeek for what they’ll each bring to the SPEED World Challenge season and what it allows us to give back to our fans.”

The 2009 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge season will begin at Sebring International Raceway, March 18 ” 20, as part of the 57th Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring Presented by Fresh From Florida.
